Shandong Agricultural University (SDAU)£¬situated at the foot of the magnificent Mount Tai£¬was founded in Jinan in 1906 with the original name of Shandong Higher Agricultural School. Later in 1952, it was renamed Shandong Agricultural College after many adjustments and integration. The college moved to Tai¡¯an in 1958 and was renamed Shandong Agricultural University in 1983. In July 1999, the former Shandong Agricultural University incorporated two schools, Shandong Water Conservancy College and Shandong Forestry School, to form the current Shandong Agricultural University. At present, SDAU is a multi-disciplinary university with agricultural science as its advantage and life science as a distinctive feature, covering many areas of both Natural Sciences and Social Sciences.
    Currently, SDAU has a fulltime enrollment of 31,000 students, of which more than 3,000 are graduate students. There are additionally 13,000 students enrolled in adult education programs. SDAU has a total number of 2,598 staff members, among which 657 are professors and associate professors. SDAU has 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and 4 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Faculty members of SDAU have won a number of national and provincial titles and awards, including 8 awards of the National Hundred-Thousand-Ten-Thousand Talent Project, 4 awards of Young and Middle-aged State-ranking Experts with Outstanding Contribution, 3 National Outstanding Teachers, 1 innovative team supported by the Supporting Plan for Cheung Kong Scholars and Innovative Teams, 3 National Teaching Teams and 9 Taishan Scholars.
    The university has 10 postdoctoral research stations, 9 PhD degree programs in the first-level discipline and 49 in the second-level, 21 master degree programs in the first-level discipline and 98 in the second-level, and 75 undergraduate degree programs. There are one national key laboratory, 2 national key disciplines, one national engineering research center, 2 key disciplines of Ministry of Agriculture, 2 open labs of Ministry of Agriculture, 16 provincial key disciplines, 12 provincial key laboratories and one Sub- Centre of National Wheat Improvement Centre, one Center of Cereal Quality Control and Test of Ministry of Agriculture , one National Forest Ecosystem Research Station, a Regional Corn Technology Innovation center, 11 provincial engineering research centers, 5 national high-quality courses, 2 national bilingual teaching demonstration courses, 9 national characteristic disciplines, 2 Innovative and Experimental Area of the Mode of Cultivating Talents, and 3 National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centers.
    SDAU covers an area of 3.53 million square meters, among which 1.12 million square meters are building areas. The total value of instruments and equipments for teaching and scientific research amounts to 340 million yuan (RMB). The library has a collection of books of 2.23 million volumes and its data recourses amount to 54,954GB.
    SDAU now has 20 colleges£¬including College of Agronomy£¬College of Plant Protection£¬College of Resources and Environment£¬College of Horticulture Science and Engineering£¬College of Forestry£¬College of Animal Science and Technology (College of Veterinary Medicine)£¬College of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering£¬College of Economics and Management£¬College of Food Science and Engineering£¬College of Information Science and Engineering£¬College of Chemistry and Material Science£¬College of Life Sciences£¬College of Humanities and Law£¬College of Foreign Languages£¬College of Water Conservancy and Civil Engineering£¬College of Physical Education and Arts£¬College of International Exchanges£¬College of Marxism£¬College of Continuing Education£¬and College of Farmers.
    Since the national reform and opening up, SDAU has obtained many honors both in teaching and scientific research, which include but are not limited to 24 National Science & Technology Progress Awards including the National Technology Invention First Award, more than 370 ministerial and provincial achievements awards in scientific research, 8 National Teaching Achievement Awards, one of which was Special National Award and 2 first-class£¬and more than 60 provincial teaching achievement awards. Ever since the founding of SDAU, it has cultivated and supplied society with more than 150,000 qualified graduates who majored in all disciplines that serve national and provincial development. Among our distinguished graduates, there are 3 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhen-Sheng Li, Xiang-Chu Yin, and Zhao-Liang Zhu; 4 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering£¬Huai-Rui Shu, Lun Shan, Zhen-Wen Yu and Yu Li.
    Since 1982, SDAU has established academic exchanges with 27 overseas universities and scientific institutions, such as University of Kentucky (College of Agriculture), Purdue University, University of Florida, The FOM University of Applied Sciences, Royal Agricultural College, The Chonbuk National University, South Korea Gongju National University ( updated in March, 2011).
